Over the past few weeks, police and law enforcement have issued thousands of fines and booked thousands of people for violations of the Corona rules. Many of these fines concerned violations of the ban on gatherings (with two or more people) and for not maintaining sufficient distance.

In many of these cases, it is possible to lodge an objection against the fine.  If the fine is a so-called 'punitive fine' (strafbeschikking) it is even advisable to lodge an objection because the fine may have consequences for your criminal record (it is subsequently registered on your criminal record).  Moreover, the rules that form the basis for these fines are often unclear.  It has already been shown that some of the emergency measures contravene both fundamental rights and the Dutch constitution.

Our lawyers can advise you about the possibilities for loding an objection and your chances in a procedure of that kind. Our lawyers are specialised in the protection of constitutional rights and fundamental rights and have ample experience in running cases concerning matters of principle.  You can contact our lawyers Frederieke Dölle or Barbara van Straaten (by phone or email).
