Barbara van Straaten

Barbara van Straaten is a criminal defence lawyer with a special focus on the area of business & human rights. Barbara specialises in cases in the field of international criminal law, extradition and specialised criminal law. Barbara is also specialised in victim representation in the broadest sense. She advises companies as well as persons who want to file a criminal complaint. She also regularly represents victims of serious crime and sexual assault. 

Barbara holds LLMs in International Criminal Law (cum laude), and Criminal Law from the University of Amsterdam. She followed part of her studies at Cambridge University and Columbia University (US). She has gained experience at the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the UN Human Rights Council and the European Commission. Previously, she worked as an associate at a large commercial law firm, in which capacity she gained experience in advising (international) corporations. 

Barbara regularly teaches law students on topics of criminal law.
