Amsterdam, 30 January 2018 - Today court hearings commenced in a criminal case against 6 defendants who are charged with incitement, recruiting for the jihad and membership of a criminal organisation. In 2015, the court of first instance in The Hague convicted the defendants for, inter alia, their activities on social media and public support for IS and Jabat Al Nusra. The facts stem from the period prior to the establishment of the IS caliphate.

The trial proceedings are scheduled to last several months (including intervals). The public prosecutor will announce its penalty requests in March; the last days of court hearings are scheduled for April.

Prakken d'Oliveira lawyers Tamara Buruma, Michiel Pestman en Marq Wijngaarden represented several defendants in this case.
