On 17 November 2025, Mikael (13) and his mother were finally told they could stay in the Netherlands. The Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (‘IND’) recognized that they have a right of residence in the Netherlands under European Union law due to Mikael's family life with his father. Dora Brouwer and Flip Schüller, lawyers for Mikael and his mother, are pleased that a long period of uncertainty has now been ended. Mikael and his mother are overjoyed and relieved that they can finally move on with their lives. They are grateful for the support that so many people have given them. Both are still adjusting to this sudden change in their lives.
