Today, the nature- and environmental organizations Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Saubere Luft from Emden, Mobilisation for the Environment and the city of Borkum have requested the district court to suspend the permits for drilling for gas in the North Sea. The building and construction of an oil platform, as well as the pipelines and electrical cables can seriously damage the protected riffs in the open sea above Schiermonnikoog and Borkum. The riffs are essential for the biodiversity in the sea.
