This month, lawyer Liesbeth Zegveld was appointed as Co-Counsel in the Victim’s Counsel Team in the case Specialist Prosecutor vs. Salih Mustafa (case number KSC-BC-2020-05) before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers ('KSC') in The Hague. The trial is set to commence on 15 September 2021.

Mustafa was indicted last year en was arrested and transferred to the KSC on 24 September 2020.  He is being prosecuted for his part in arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture and murder, committed by certain KLA-members against persons detained at the Zllash detention compound.

The Kosovo Specialist Chambers are a temporary legal mechanism set to mete justice over crimes against humanity, war crimes and other crimes committed during the Kosovar civil war in the period  from 1 January 1998 and 31 December 2000. The KSC are part of the Kosovar legal system, but the KSC has its seat in The Hague and is formed by international judges, prosecutors and lawyers. More information about the KSC is available here.
