Prof. Ties Prakken (1937)

Ties Prakken specialises in criminal law and human rights. She's also worked for the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology in Utrecht, where she obtained her doctorate in 1985. Between 1998 and 2004, she was professor of Criminal Procedural Law at Maastricht University. Ties is a member of the Dutch Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers.

Ties Prakken publishes regularly on issues related to criminal law. 2010 saw the publication of her book 'Politieke verdediging' on political defence counsel in criminal cases, which she co-authored with the Brussels-based lawyer Jan Fermon. In 2013 she published 'Grondrechten op de helling, de rol van het Wildersproces in de afbraak van de rechtsstaat' about the role of the Wilders-trial in the breakdown of the rule of law.
