Joy and relief in response to Wilders’ conviction
Amsterdam, 16 December 2016 - Seven Dutch citizens of Moroccan descent and four Moroccan NGOs that were represented by Göran Sluiter in the Wilders case are by and large happy and relieved that Geert Wilders was convicted of group defamation and incitement to discrimination on the 9th of December 2016.
As early as May 2014, mr. Sluiter and Tamara Buruma reported the incidents on behalf of several clients.
Subsequently, Sluiter acted as lawyer of several injured parties in the procedure and spoke on their behalf. You can find Sluiter’s pleadings regarding the claims for damages here. The clients are disappointed that their claims were deemed inadmissible by the court; should there be an appeal, they will again participate and file for damages.
Following the verdict, Sluiter published a commentary in the Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, which you can find here.
