Court hearing re: Jaloud vs the Netherlands (shooting incident in Iraq)

Amsterdam, 22 May 2018 - On 17 May 2018, a court hearing took place at the district court of The Hague in the civil procedure brought by Mr. Sabah Jaloud against the State of the Netherlands. The case concerns the death of his son Azhar Jaloud on 21 April 2004 during a schooting incident in Iraq involving Dutch soldiers. Previously, the European Court of Human Rights unanimously held that the Dutch State had violated its obligations under Article 2 ECHR within the context of the investigation into Azhar Jaloud's death.

Sabah Jaloud now holds the Dutch State liable for the death of his son. He is represented in this case by lawyers Liesbeth Zegveld and Brechtje Vossenberg.
